Ken, thanks for the link to your slideshow. I think I will try Fred Also's technique next, just to see how that approach works. I wanted to use just iLife apps to see if it could be done, and I'm glad for the experience, however, in the future I may invest in Fotomagico if I need to do more slide presentations. IMovie looked a bit too complicated to me, and the research online I did suggested that it was a more complicated method than using iPhoto. It was a more complicated process than I had thought it should/would be, but it looked good in the end. I also adjusted the duration of the slides depending on the photo. I used Garageband because I wanted to use a few songs and parts of songs. I used iPhoto and Garageband to create a 7 minute slide show for my nephew's 8th grade graduation. I would like to express my condolences on your loss, may the memories of your relative live deep within your heart.
FOTOMAGICO MANUAL MANUAL
I have the Missing Manual for iMovie 6 it is exceptionally thorough and, as is everything Pogue writes, easy to understand. The feature set of these programs goes much deeper than the simple UI would indicate you'll save lots of time having a reference manual handy instead of trying to figure things out as you go along. My one piece of advice is to make sure you have a good reference for iMovie/iDVD on hand as you work. The Mac makes it pretty easy to put together simple movies.
FOTOMAGICO MANUAL PROFESSIONAL
One of my wife's cousins in attendance is a professional A/V/multimedia guy he was very surprised to learn it had not been produced by a professional and was quite impressed with what I'd done. You could hear a pin drop as 50+ family members watched and reminisced, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house when it was over. As the source video was on VHS, I needed to digitize it, which I did using my EyeTV Hybrid and a VCR. My source material was a mixture of family photos and videos I used iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD (with a little help from iTunes for the music) to compile the presentation. I did one of these for my wife's grandmother this past January.
